Worldliness.

 Stay Clear of this World

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:1,2

Making the Right Move

Life is just like a chess game. You're moving your "pieces" into the direction to beat your opponent. You need to plan ahead, figure out which moves could be made and the possible reaction of your opponent. You have to be very careful and thorough in making the right decision. One wrong move may cause you much trouble to get back on your feet. It also takes much thought and exercise to come out as winner. But once you have the King you are indeed the Winner. Let us apply this strategy to our spiritual battle.

I would like to share our family's experience regarding TV and movie watching. I came from an inventor's family, and many years ago my father (a genius) developed/invented amplification of sound and major parts to convey images etc. as for TV. This was in the old country in Europe. He spearheaded TV as we know it today.

I remember seeing images etc. on a radar tube, due to lack of TV tube. Now you'll know that I speak of past times of over half a century ago. We had a family of 9, and we as children were very ambitious, to say the least. Soon the TV ruled our family life and watching TV programs stole our free time. As children, we felt cheated.

Some years later the Lord saved my soul. When I got married, my husband and I decided not to have a TV in our home. We raised four beautiful children without TV or movie. These children became the most happy, innovative, creative and smart kids, one wishes to have.

At an early age our children created their own games, theatre plays, artistic handmade things etc. The youngest wrote a book for her sister, before she was 10 years old. They were athletic and very active outdoors. They did win medals galore in school sports. This was all throughout Public and High School.

You may wonder if our children ever felt deprived. Not at ALL! At one time a neighbour felt sorry for our kids not having a TV. So, she let them have her black/white TV. My husband and I decided to let them "experience" it.

Well... they couldn't take the violence, even in the children's programs. They became angry, because it was stealing their free days... they were missing out on this and that, due to TV watching. Within one week they begged us to throw it out, and the TV was literally kicked out by our oldest child and my husband.

What a blessing to have the peace and quietness restored in our home. Nothing to sidetrack or obscure our relationship with the Lord. No background noise and flashes bothered us since. We have time to think and meditate, to write down our feelings and messages of the Lord.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2

What a blessing not to be influenced by the things of this world, through this "tube". I can continue on and on... but I see the TV programs as an evil which many, including Christians, voluntarily bring (the world) into their homes and burden their families with.

You may live in the grip of this monster and can't or won't do without it. That should tell you something. You may think that as long as you are not as the ones who are addicted to alcohol, nicotine or drugs, you're alright. In the mean time you have become a slave yourself, to something which may not effect your body, but which controls your soul and mind. God's word calls this: bowing down before idols.

Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. 1 Corinthians 10:14

That ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God. Acts 14:15

Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 19:4

After years watching TV programs, children may become that what has been projected before their eyes. Their innocent mind will be overwhelmed and dictated by someone else's thinking, while Christian parents should protect their children and direct their thoughts upon the Lord instead.

We, as followers of Christ, have enough problems keeping the world out of our hearts and homes. We certainly do not need the TV programs bringing it in.

I'm not suggesting that you will stop sinning by getting rid of your TV programs. Sin is a matter of the heart and one needs to change from within, by accepting Jesus Christ as Saviour and Master; allowing the Holy Spirit full control in their life.

Since the TV programs and its advertisements present 98% garbage, the follower of Christ should stay clear of watching this. Also, TV information is something we don't need and which will sidetrack us in our relationship with the Lord.

You may argue that you need to keep up with the world news. Don't worry, you'll know that soon enough. Remember Noah in the ark? There was only one window facing up. Noah had NO communication with the outside world, but he was connected with God. The Lord Himself had informed Noah what was going to happen, even before the world knew. You may think that this is too far fetched. But wait a minute, aren't the signs of the time showing that we are living as in the days of Noah?

Of course there are many other things, besides watching TV programs, which can have similar effects on our life and walk with God. Therefore, we need to be tuned in to God's will. The Scripture teaches us to walk in holiness, avoiding any temptation and steering away from worldliness.

I pray God's blessing upon you, the reader; that you may understand and respond to God's will and direction for you... your children; your family.

Be encouraged as you seek the quietness for a deeper experience with the Lord.
